Creating Liberty PRSSA's New Website

I joined Liberty's PRSSA Chapter my sophomore year after hearing about it from my journalism professor. It truly became one of the greatest things I did in college. It gave me practical experience in the communications field (and those that related to it) and countless networking opportunities.

This website project was the least I could do to give back to an organization that changed my professional career for the better. I had hoped that after I left, they would continue on the tradition of personal projects like this.

Little did I know, they actually implemented many of my design choices in a recent website update (which you can find here). I'm honored to have left a piece of me with them and am so excited to see how they are thriving!

Homepage & Footer

The homepage features the Liberty PRSSA tagline: We are PR. It means many things, and the most important is that everyone is welcome to the organization. The red, white, and blue brand colors align with the University's branding to show its affiliation.

As the user scrolls through the homepage, they can see a call-to-action in every section. They are invited to read more about the PRSSA mission, follow them on Instagram, and so on. Keeping with good design principles, important information is no more than three clicks away for the user.

About

There are three main "About" subsections for Liberty PRSSA. I wanted users to know the story of PRSSA National and Liberty's Chapter mission. I also wanted to have a page highlighting current board members so they can use it for their portfolios and so new members can get to know them. Maybe they'll discover they have some of the same classes!

Membership

The next page that was important to include was Membership. This page would have external links to PRSSA National since that is how Liberty accounts for their Chapter membership. It would also include other added benefits to membership, such as National seminars, an exclusive job board, and other perks.

Events

A large part of Liberty PRSSA's model as an on-campus club is holding biweekly events for members. Here I included an example of the collection of events and an event "post," since my idea was to utilize an events plugin.

Blog

Another part of what Liberty PRSSA does is create opportunities for members to practice their communications and PR skills. We hire writers to contribute to our blog and newsroom sections, which you'll see next. Many of our posts are either event recaps or career advice. Our goal was to create a blog page with content worth sharing.

Newsroom

The Newsroom would feature stories written about Liberty PRSSA and press releases written by our board to get the word out about what we are doing.

Join

Very similar to the Membership page, this would have more details on the logistics of joining Liberty PRSSA. It includes direct links for members to pay dues, fill out a committee interest form, and submit an application to be on the next semester's board of directors.

Contact

The Contact page would use a contact plugin that is linked to the Liberty PRSSA club email. In addition to the form, users could also find our direct contact information, including social media handles, in the footer of the website.

Conclusion

This project was a fulfilling one, and it was the last contribution I made to this organization before I graduated. I am so grateful for the team of people I got to work with over the course of three years, and I will always be proud I joined Liberty PRSSA.
